Divinatory Textile Bundles
Create your own personalised beeswax amulet during a creative workshop with artist Sana López Abellán. Give shape to your wishes, dreams and plans for the future using fabric and age-old techniques.
How do you capture your wishes, dreams and intentions in an object? During this workshop, under the guidance of artist Sana López Abellán, you will create a personal amulet made of beeswax and fabric. You will discover how materials and ancient traditions can help you give meaning to what matters to you.
Make a personalised amulet
The workshop draws inspiration from centuries-old traditions, such as African basket divination, Japanese omamori talismans and European ex-votos.
You’ll make small figures out of beeswax, a material that symbolises change. These figures give shape to your personal wishes and goals. You’ll then wrap and tie the figures in a piece of fabric. This creates an amulet with personal significance.
All the materials are provided. You can also bring along a piece of fabric of your own that holds a special memory for you.
About the artist and the Textile Initiative
The workshop will be led by Sana López Abellán, a Spanish-Dutch artist, curator and anthropologist. In her work, she brings together art, research and symbolism.
The event forms part of a programme organised by the KB, the national library, in collaboration with Textile Initiative. This platform, founded by artists Bronwen Jones and Dasha Golova, brings together textile crafts with themes such as tradition, ecology and personal stories.
