Sytze Bouma - Drag Me to RoXY
Drag Me to RoXY is a solo performance by actor and drag performer Sytze Bouma, presented on 10 december 2026 at Zaal 3 in The Hague. Using drag, lipsyncs, house music and personal stories, he brings Amsterdam's legendary nightclub RoXY back to life.
RoXY was more than a nightclub. In the 1990s it was a sanctuary where you could be yourself, a place with world-famous guests, headline-grabbing performances and a door policy everyone talked about. In the summer of 1999, the club burned to the ground. What remains, thirty years on, of a place like that, and of the freedom it embodied?
Sytze Bouma on RoXY and queer belonging
Sytze Bouma graduated from the theatre school in Arnhem in 2024 and writes queer stories rooted in personal obsessions. For Drag Me to RoXY he tracked down people who knew the club from the inside. Those interviews form the backbone of the show, combined with drag performances, archive photographs and full-throttle house music. The result is a solo that traces how hedonism and the longing for connection become intertwined across time.
A solo between lipsync and spoken text
Bouma moves effortlessly between genres: lipsyncs alternate with spoken word, drag aesthetics meet intimate theatre. SCENES wrote that he "brings together lipsyncs and text theatre in a drag performance in an intriguing way" and winds audiences around his finger with ease. 3voor12 called the show "at times hilarious, sensitive, recognisable, but above all very impressively done".
Drag Me to RoXY in The Hague
The performance is an invitation to look back at an era, but also to reflect on what queer freedom means today. Zaal 3 in The Hague is an intimate venue, which only reinforces the personal tone of the solo.
