Nine trombonists of the New Trombone Collective spread throughout a monumental church interior

Classical music in The Hague: the New Trombone Collective performs the world premiere of Resonances by Michael Gordon at the New Church. Nine trombonists spread throughout the monumental church space for a fully immersive spatial sound experience.

Michael Gordon is one of the most distinctive voices in American contemporary music. As co-founder of Bang on a Can, he developed a style that pits classical traditions against minimalist force: driving rhythmic pulses, dense sound masses, and dramatic arcs that build slowly but relentlessly. Resonances is his latest work, written for nine trombones, and it receives its world premiere here.

The New Trombone Collective at the New Church in The Hague

The New Trombone Collective consists of nine top Dutch trombonists, known for their tight ensemble sound and bold programming choices. For this concert, the ensemble spreads out through the New Church, so the sound reaches the audience from every direction. The high vaults and wide nave of the church amplify this effect: every trombone motif resonates differently, placing the listener inside the composition. Alongside the world premiere of Gordon's work, the programme features additional spatial pieces.

The concert is part of the Klassiek van nu series at Amare. Cloakroom use and an interval drink are included in the ticket price. Ooievaarspas holders are entitled to a discount on admission.
