The four musicians of the Utrecht String Quartet performing on stage.

Classical music at Veur Theater: the Utrecht String Quartet presents an evening of chamber music, combining celebrated masterworks with rare and rediscovered repertoire.

The Utrecht String Quartet takes two seemingly opposite priorities equally seriously: the great, timeless works of the standard repertoire, and composers who have been unjustly forgotten. That dual mission isn't just talk – the quartet has backed it up with an impressive body of recordings for the MDG label, featuring music by Mossolov, Bosmans, Grechaninov, Lourié and complete string quartet works by Tchaikovsky, Glazunov and Verhulst.

Utrecht String Quartet

The four musicians – Eeva from Finland, Katherine from Australia, Mikhail from Russia and Sebastian from Germany – approach every piece as if encountering it for the first time. That applies to well-known works, but especially to rediscoveries: compositions that sat in archives for decades and are now heard again. In an intimate venue like Veur Theater, that approach resonates. The acoustics and scale mean the music lands without distance.

Chamber music in an intimate setting

The quartet performs on major stages across the Netherlands and abroad, but places real value on smaller concert halls. The direct contact with the audience – and the conversations after the concert – are, in the quartet's own words, an essential part of the experience. At Veur Theater, that closeness comes naturally.
