Edible art

What is Het Dineum?

The Dineum is a pop-up museum for edible art on Elandstraat in The Hague. Here, you don’t just view art; you also taste and experience it. During a full-evening tour, you’ll visit various art installations. Some places will look familiar, whilst others are strange and surprising.

Every artwork tells its own story. To fully experience that story, you eat a part of the artwork. Performance artists guide you and engage you in conversation. In this way, you yourself become part of the art.

What can you expect at Het Dineum?

The tour lasts approximately 3 to 3.5 hours. You’ll follow a set route past various works of art, together with a group of between two and eight people. A new group starts the tour every half hour.

The edible components together make up a complete evening meal. Familiar ingredients are used, but presented in different ways. No insects or offal are served.

The programme combines installation art, theatre and food. The artworks come to life through the interaction between visitors, performance artists and the dishes.

Who is Het Dineum for?

The Dineum is designed for adults who want to experience art in a different way. You can come on your own, with a partner or with a group of friends. Packages are also available for groups of more than eight people.

There are options available for visitors with food allergies, such as gluten, and for those who follow a plant-based diet.

A temporary space for edible art

The Dineum was born out of the idea of creating art that you don’t just see, but also feel and taste. The initial plans were drawn up in 2020 under the name Food Art Experience.

Following a planned pilot scheme in Rotterdam, which was cancelled due to the coronavirus measures, the concept was further developed. In 2025, a venue was found on Elandstraat in The Hague. The Dineum opened in April 2026.

The museum focuses on direct, sensory experiences in a world where screens are playing an ever-greater role. The art only exists when visitors, artists and dishes come together.
