What is Art Nouveau?
Art Nouveau (or Jugendstil) is an attractive and international art movement that responded to the typical 19th-century neo-styles. It emerged around 1890 and lasted until the outbreak of the First World War. Art Nouveau artists had a great love for graceful, flowing lines.
Natural forms, such as plants, flowers and animals, were their main source of inspiration. But flowing, mainly female body shapes were also a favourite. The flowing lines of Art Nouveau can be seen in all art forms: architecture, painting, design and applied art.
