Vibrant abstract painting featuring organic shapes.

A unique collection of paper pulp paintings by the artist duo Gentenaar-Torley has returned from China. From 9 June, several works will be added to the exhibition Fibers of Life at Museum Rijswijk.

Back from China

After a stay of almost ten years in China, dozens of works by the artist duo Gentenaar-Torley have returned to the Netherlands. The paper pulp paintings and paper sculptures were previously on display at the Suzhou Jinji Lake Art Museum and during the Jinji Lake Biennale.

For a long time, it was unclear where the works were located. In early May, a large container carrying the collection arrived in Rijswijk. Much to the artists’ delight, the works were found to be in excellent condition.

Special technique

The excellent condition of the works is down to a special technique. The colour is not applied to the surface, but is added to the fibres during the papermaking process. This ensures that the works retain their bright and fresh appearance.

This technique is particularly evident in Pat Gentenaar’s colourful paper pulp paintings.

Supplement to Fibers of Life

The returned paintings represent a significant part of Pat Gentenaar’s body of work and have therefore been added to the exhibition Fibers of Life.

From 9 June, visitors will be able to view a selection of these works at the Museum
