Bob Schwarze – Korte Arabesken
The performance Korte Arabesken with storyteller Bob Schwarze is part of the Jalan Jalan Festival and takes place on Sunday 23 August 2026 at Theater Branoul in The Hague. Schwarze brings three stories by Louis Couperus to life with his distinctive storytelling style.
Louis Couperus wrote Korte Arabesken as a series of compact, versatile stories full of irony and human observation. Bob Schwarze, known for his warm and captivating style, selected three pieces for this special programme: Tragisch diner, Een avond in het casino and De binocle. Together they form an afternoon that is both light and thoughtful, funny and moving.

Schwarzе is not a reader but a storyteller: texts come alive differently through him than they do on the page. He adds nothing and leaves nothing out, but through tone, timing and presence he gives Couperus's words a new dimension. That makes this programme worthwhile for those who already know Couperus, and for those who have yet to read him.
