Clara Lévy & Victor Guaita Igual – Songs of Erosion
Violin player Clara Lévy and violist Victor Guaita Igual present 'Songs of Erosion', a contemporary reinterpretation of the Cantigas de Santa María – a 13th-century Spanish songbook. They approach this historical material through the concepts of erosion, sedimentation and landslide. This connects to their recent release on Discreet Editions, on which they articulated two Cantigas through the same lens.
Raviv Ganchrow – Songing Thalassic in The Hague
In his presentation 'Songing Thalassic', Raviv Ganchrow connects three worlds: 1970s environmentalism, Cold War ocean surveillance, and emerging interspecies cultural imaginations. At the centre are questions about the development of mammalian hearing and sounding underwater, explored through various iterations of whale 'songs'. The presentation follows the first-ever documented recording of a whale song in the Strait of Magellan, made within the framework of Ganchrow's research project 'Whale Refractions'.
