In the intimate dance performance Draagkracht, you are drawn into the lives of women from Indonesia, the Moluccas and the former Dutch East Indies. Women who bore the weight of history, yet do not feature in the history books. For a moment, their stories come very close: not spoken, but felt through urban contemporary dance rich in influences from Indonesian and Moluccan culture. Gentle yet powerful.
For the women who aren’t in the history books
As a viewer, you follow three women’s stories. You meet a woman who remains silent and bears her burden without recognition, whilst the world around her changes. You follow a woman who fights, organises and takes risks in a world that denies her very existence. And you meet a woman who creates space through words, by writing, teaching and bringing about change from within. *Draagkracht* lets you experience what often remains invisible: the weight passed down from generation to generation, without words, but never without impact. In doing so, Cheroney is making history, and you can witness it at first hand.
