Two dancers perform an interactive show, with an enthusiastic audience participating.

Future Dance of Nostalgia is an interactive dance game by visual artist Kexin Hao, in which the body is explored as an archive of the past. The choreographies are inspired by movements from the physically demanding labor of China’s past, as well as by the traditional work songs that were sung during that labor.

With pulsating club beats and motion-tracking technology, your movements become part of this game. Come discover, through dance, how the past can come alive again—here and now, in your body.

Feel the rhythms of labor lost to time

In work songs, singing and rhythmic chanting gave rhythm to repetitive labor and helped workers collaborate more effectively. Beijing-born Kexin conducted extensive research into these work songs and the movements that accompanied them. This gives us a unique glimpse into how our bodies once worked together in forms of production that have since disappeared.

Shifting Your Perspective on History Through Connection
