Hoedententoonstelling Passage

In the former and exclusive hat shop ‘Ladies Paradise’, many hats from the 1950s/60s have been found. This shop has been empty since the year 2000 and used to be a supplier for many Dutch celebrities including the Queen. During works, numerous old hats were recently discovered in the attic. These hats can be admired in De Passage from 2 to 30 September.

Hats in the Sky

The hidden treasure from The Hague Passage is coming back to life. Last year, the found hats were also on display in The Passage. Due to the enormous interest, it was decided to hang them up again. The hats can therefore be admired in De Passage again in September.

In 2020, in the vacant space above the former hat shop Ladies Paradise in De Passage, a consignment of as many as 3,000 hats was discovered. After the shop closed in 1998, these hats were left behind in the attic. In 2022, The Hague-based designer Pink Steenvoorden of Einstein Design conceived the installation Chapeau! An installation to which many hats playfully dance in the monumental space. An ode to hats and the history of De Passage.

The hat shop Ladies Paradise was founded in 1961 by Otto De Klijn. Back then, hats were mainly something for posh occasions. Several members of parliament, Queen Juliana and Queen Beatrix came to Ladies Paradise for hats.
