Vliegerfestival Scheveningen

The Scheveningen Kite Festival is the premier international kite-flying event on the Dutch coast and attracts thousands of visitors to Scheveningen beach.

From display pilots to creative works of art in the sky

The International Kite Festival Scheveningen is the largest international kite event in the Netherlands. During the festival, the most special kites from all over the world can be admired to the south (left) of De Pier. Almost every year, the largest kite in Europe is present during the Scheveningen Kite Festival. Because of the fantastic spectacle, the event is a perfect opportunity for a fun day or weekend with children at the beach of Scheveningen!

A breathtaking spectacle

During the Scheveningen Kite Festival, kite flyers from dozens of countries put on kite shows and demonstrations across various themes and disciplines: power kiting, stunt kiting and mega-kite single-line flying. The shows offer a breathtaking spectacle with kites in fantastic colours, countless sizes and the most incredible shapes.

Fly a kite yourself

Next to the demonstration area, there is always plenty of space to fly a kite yourself. Beginners and experienced kite flyers, young and old, everyone is welcome to fly their own kite.

Accessibility

Scheveningen is easily accessible from the centre of The Hague by public transport, car and bicycle. In all cases, the journey takes about fifteen minutes. Those travelling by public transport can take tram lines 1 and 9 and bus lines 21, 22 and 23. From The Hague Central Station, you can take tram 9 towards Scheveningen. From The Hague Hollands Spoor Station, HTM trams 1 and 9 run towards the beach. Get off at the Kurhaus stop, from where it’s a three-minute walk to the promenade. By car, follow the signs for Scheveningen Bad from the motorway.

There are several car parks in the immediate vicinity of the beach: these are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and all three are within a ten-minute walk of the promenade. The best way to get to Scheveningen is by (shared) bike or scooter. This is the quickest option, especially in good weather. Right by the beach, there are also various secure bike racks, including those operated by Biesieklette, where you can park your bike for free.
