Magical Opera!
Magical Opera! is a music theatre show at the Rijswijkse Schouwburg, bringing together soprano Francis van Broekhuizen, illusionist Dion van Rijt and pianist-conductor Gregor Bak for an evening of opera, magic and humour.
Fifteen years ago, Francis van Broekhuizen and illusionist Dion van Rijt shared a stage and started wondering: what if we combined our worlds? Magical Opera! is that idea brought to life. Opera arias alternate with magic acts of European championship calibre, while Francis weaves in the funny and touching stories her audiences have come to love. She even gets sawed in half – while singing. How it turns out is something you'll have to see for yourself.
Francis van Broekhuizen, Dion van Rijt and Gregor Bak
Francis van Broekhuizen is a soprano and comedienne, well known from opera, theatre and television. Her powerful voice and comedic flair make her a performer unlike any other. Dion van Rijt is internationally regarded as one of Europe's most inventive illusionists; his acts, including the world-renowned Tango, rank among the best in the field. Musical direction is in the hands of Gregor Bak: pianist, conductor and television presenter, who previously toured with Francis in shows including Bij twijfel hard zingen and Schandalig mooie opera!
Opera and illusion at the Rijswijkse Schouwburg
The Rijswijkse Schouwburg provides the stage for this exceptional collaboration. Magical Opera! defies easy categorisation: it is not a standard opera concert, not a magic show and not a cabaret evening, but a blend of all three. Whether you love classical music, grand illusions or simply an evening full of wonder, this show has something for you.
