Recirquel – Paradisum
Dance and circus merge in Paradisum, the latest production by Hungarian company Recirquel. On Friday 6 November 2026, this international ensemble takes the stage at the Rijswijkse Schouwburg with a performance that dissolves boundaries between art forms and places the body at the centre as a universal language.
Recirquel from Budapest has created its own genre: 'cirque-danse', in which circus and dance are so closely intertwined that the distinction disappears. In Paradisum, directed by Bence Vági, six performers depart from a destroyed world where words have lost their meaning. What remains is movement. The show explores how a new human can exist in a paradisiacal, utopian state, using imagery rooted in both aerial circus and floor work.
Recirquel at the Rijswijkse Schouwburg: a return visit
Programmer Lydia Huisman previously invited Recirquel for My Land in 2022. That visit left such an impression that a return was inevitable. Paradisum is the logical next step: more ambitious in concept and even stronger in the choreography that lifts its six performers to a level rarely seen on Dutch stages.
From Edinburgh to Rijswijk
The production has already made its mark on the international circus circuit. At the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Paradisum received glowing reviews, after which it was selected for the CINARS Biennial in Montreal, a platform that brings together the global top of innovative dance and circus. The fact that Rijswijk is now on the route makes this a special opportunity for everyone in The Hague region looking for high-quality performing arts.
