Refugium
21 Mar 2026 - 30 Aug 2026
Exhibition
In 2025 and 2026, Museum Panorama Mesdag will present the special project Refugium Van Duin tot Doggersbank. This high-profile exhibition is a collaboration with the Embassy of the North Sea, Dune Conservation Foundation, Dunea and the Walking Club.
Art as a compass for the future of nature and the sea
Refugium is a cultural ode to Dutch nature, sea and coastal landscape inspired by the heritage of artists Hendrik Willem Mesdag and Sientje Mesdag-van Houten. As early as the 19th century, they advocated the preservation of natural areas. In their spirit, Refugium sets its sights on the future: a powerful project in which art, ecology and wonder come together. Using the Panorama of Scheveningen as a starting point, Refugium examines how we can reconnect with the landscape today, from the dunes at Meijendel to the hidden depths of the Doggersbank in the North Sea.
