Every year from 27 to 31 December, the construction of the Scheveningen Bonfire takes place on Scheveningen's Noorderstrand. The bonfire will conclude with a fireworks show from 23:00!

Scheveningen tradition

The Scheveningen bonfire is an annual tradition committed to organising the highest bonfire in the Netherlands. The bonfire is lit on New Year's Eve around midnight through a fireworks show and is free to visit. From Scheveningen's boulevard, you have a good view of this gigantic bonfire. So enter the new year with a bonfire and fireworks.

Every year, Scheveningen (the Noorderstrand) and Duindorp (the Zuiderstrand) compete for the title of the 'tallest fire' in the Netherlands at New Year's Eve. This is a long-standing tradition from generation to generation that keeps spirits high in both Scheveningen and Duindorp, but also in the rest of the Netherlands.

Many people from young to old participate in the bonfire and if not for the fight, then for the fun of seeing each other again. For many Scheveningers, the bonfire is as important a tradition as Vlaggetjesdag and for some it is the most important time of the year!
