A person wearing a VR headset stands in tall grass, looking at the sky during sunset.

ERGENS by Schippers&VanGucht is a VR installation at Zuiderparktheater in The Hague. Through a VR headset you step into a 3D film world that makes a child's loneliness tangible, supported by live music.

What does a child feel when it feels 'allenig', not quite alone, but somewhere in between? Schippers&VanGucht translates that nuance into an intimate VR experience. Once you put on the headset and close your eyes to the physical space around you, a 3D landscape of images and sounds unfolds. Live music carries the journey, touching something difficult to put into words.

Schippers&VanGucht at Zuiderparktheater in The Hague

Zuiderparktheater is a key venue for innovative theatre in The Hague. ERGENS fits that profile precisely: it is not a conventional performance, but an installation you move through yourself, at your own pace, inside your own mind. Theatre makers Schippers&VanGucht are known for work that pushes the boundaries between performing arts and visual art. With ERGENS, they do so by combining technology and live performance.

Who is ERGENS for?

The installation is made for all ages. Children recognise the feeling at its core; adults do too, even if it feels more distant. That makes ERGENS an experience you can share, yet live individually. Groups start at set times; you each take a seat and retreat into the world behind the headset.
