The Hague Blues
The Hague Blues is a blues event taking place in the Grolsch Zaal at PAARD in The Hague. On Sunday 4 October 2026, four bands gather for an afternoon combining raw blues, boogie, shuffle and blues rock. From psychedelic soul out of America to a Dutch blues institution: The Hague Blues brings together international and national headline acts on a single stage.
Blues comes in many shapes, and The Hague Blues puts four of them on display in a single afternoon. The programme in the Grolsch Zaal at PAARD brings together acts with their own distinct take on the genre, forming a varied yet cohesive line-up.
Red Red and the Bas Paardekooper Trio at The Hague Blues
Red Red, a collaboration between musicians from the US and Belgium, opens the afternoon with what they call 'Psychedelic Turntable Blues': a blend of psychedelic blues, seventies rock, soul and roots music enriched with turntablism. It's a sound that defies easy categorisation. The Bas Paardekooper Trio follows with something equally distinctive: Bas Paardekooper was named Best Dutch Blues Musician in 2024 and has built a strong live reputation on authentic songwriting and a direct playing style.
The Cards and Livin' Blues close out at PAARD The Hague
The Cards is a power trio featuring Paul Quinn, guitarist and co-founder of British rock band Saxon. After decades on the road with that group, he now focuses on blues rock alongside singer/bassist Harrison Young and drummer Koen Herfst. Closing the afternoon is Livin' Blues, one of the longest-running names in Dutch blues history. Led by co-founder Nicko Christiansen, the band delivers their signature mix of blues, boogie and shuffle, joined by special guest Erwin Java. With Loek van der Knaap on guitar and Thomas Toussaint on harmonica, it's a full-blooded finale to a packed afternoon.
