The Smithsonics performing on stage as a tribute band to The Smiths

On Saturday 26 September 2026, the beloved new wave night New Wave City celebrates its 12.5-year anniversary with a special performance by The Smithsonics at the Kleine Zaal of PAARD in The Hague, followed by a night of eighties classics spun by the resident DJs.

Twelve and a half years ago, New Wave City started as a modest night for eighties new wave fans. Today it is a fixture on The Hague's nightlife calendar. For this milestone, tribute band The Smithsonics joins the bill: four experienced musicians who bring the sound of The Smiths to life in their own way. No costumes or theatrical gestures, just a confident approach rooted in the attitude that made the Manchester band legendary. Maurissey handles vocals while Jacob, Rob and Bob step into the shoes of Marr, Rourke and Joyce. Expect well-known tracks alongside deeper cuts from the Smiths catalogue.

The Smithsonics: a Hague tribute to The Smiths

Founded in 2023, The Smithsonics have quickly built a solid reputation in the tribute scene. What sets them apart is interpretation over imitation: Johnny Marr's distinctive guitar lines, the rhythmic backbone of Rourke and Joyce, and the exceptional lyrics that defined the band. It all sounds familiar yet never feels like a carbon copy. Long-time fans and newcomers alike will find something to connect with.
