Canal tour The Hague - Harbour office
In the centre of The Hague, at Bierkade 18B, you will find the Harbour Office of the Ooievaart/Vlietvaart. The Harbour Office is the starting point for the canal cruises. Among other things, you can buy tickets for the round trips here.
Open boats
Due to bridge heights, De Ooievaart sails with open boats. In case of rain, ponchos are available on the tour boats. In addition, it is not possible to bring wheelchairs, prams and rollators on board. These can be parked at the harbour office on the Bierkade.
Discover The Hague from the water during this fun boat trip in a historic Kagenaar from De Ooievaart! De Ooievaart's canal cruises sail around the centre of The Hague and show you the city's versatility: that of sand and peat, but also royal The Hague, the international city of Peace and Justice, the government centre, embassies and ministries. A guide will tell you about the history of the royal city along the way, as well as stories about contemporary The Hague. The cruise through The Hague's canals takes about 1.5 hours and starts and ends at the Bierkade.
The Ooievaart sails daily from April to October. Boat trips depart every hour from Bierkade 18b in the centre of The Hague. From Monday to Friday plus Sunday between 13:00 and 15:00, on Saturday from 12:00 to 16:00.
Vlietvaart - covered boat
This boat trip on the Vliet is organised by De Vlietvaart from May to October. The boat sails along the towpath between The Hague, Voorburg, Rijswijk and Delft the same route where, in earlier centuries, the draught barges sailed on and off. During the Vlietvaart, you can enjoy the views, country houses and the green zone between the historic Randstad cities. The Vlietvaart also offers the opportunity to disembark in Voorburg to visit Museum Hofwijck, the former home of two illustrious men of the Golden Age, Constantijn and Christiaan Huygens. You can then return by boat a few hours later or continue on your own.
Book
It is recommended, especially at weekends and when the weather is nice, to book in advance for the boat trips. Tickets can be purchased via the website of De Ooievaart by telephone on + 31 70-4451869, or book with one of the employees at The Hague Info Store.
Accessibility
The Harbour Office is located in the centre of The Hague on the Bierkade near the Spui. This is the embarkation point for the Ooievaart and Vlietvaart. This embarkation point is a five-minute walk from The Hague Hollands Spoor Station and ten minutes from CS. Moreover, several trams and buses stop nearby. De Ooievaart The Hague is also easy to reach by car. However, it is smarter and cheaper to park your car in a nearby car park, for example on the Veerkade.
