Due to the persistent drought and sunny weather, the risk of wildfires in The Hague has increased considerably. Especially the vegetation in dunes and parks, such as beach grass, sea buckthorn, shrubs and conifers, catches fire quickly. Also dangerous for visitors and the animals that live there, such as foxes, rabbits and Scottish Highlanders. You can be surprised by the fire, get trapped and not be able to get away. On April 2, 2025, approximately 700 square meters of dune area between Zuiderstrand and Duindorp was damaged.

Your alertness can make the difference. Do not throw away cigarettes or glass and do not light a fire. Barbecuing is prohibited. Do you see a suspicious situation or fire? Call 112 immediately. Is it not an emergency, but is a forest ranger needed? Call the municipal enforcement department via 14070 (only possible with Dutch phonenumbers otherwise call 112). Nature managers and emergency services will keep an extra eye on the dunes of The Hague.
