Cununa Ensemble – Dor De Rod
On 3 October 2026, the Cununa Ensemble will be performing at the Zeeheldentheater in The Hague. With its programme DOR DE ROD, the ensemble will present an evening of folk music from Romania, Turkey and other Balkan countries.
Autumn in Romania is more than just a season. The grape harvest, haymaking and the first new wine go hand in hand with weddings, village festivals and religious ceremonies. That colourful world is the source of inspiration for DOR DE ROD, which translates as ‘Harvest and Longing’. The Cununa Ensemble translates that world into music that immediately captivates you, without you needing to speak a single word of Romanian.
Cununa Ensemble in The Hague
What sets the Cununa Ensemble apart is the combination of two worlds. Each of the musicians received a classical education, yet at the same time grew up immersed in the folk music traditions of Eastern Europe and the countries around the Black Sea. This dual background is evident in their playing: strong soloists who improvise with the confidence of someone who knows the tradition from the inside out. Well-known and lesser-known traditional melodies are given surprising new arrangements, whilst always leaving room for the unexpected.
Theatercafé De Mix at Het Zeeheldentheater
Theatercafé De Mix is an accessible concert format combining the relaxed atmosphere of a café with high-quality live music. Het Zeeheldentheater in The Hague provides an intimate setting, close to the performers. That proximity is what makes these evenings special: the space is small enough to catch every detail in the interplay between musicians, yet big enough to lose yourself in the music.
