Siebrand Weitenberg has worked for decades from a clear artistic conviction: images can show what words fall short of capturing. His work draws on ancient stories, legends and myths, which he combines with a carefully chosen personal theme for each project. That theme serves not as a straitjacket, but as a guiding thread. The result is work that feels simultaneously familiar and enigmatic.

Weitenberg and the longing for the invisible

The title references Yggdrasil, the world tree from Norse mythology, a telling choice. Weitenberg searches for images that reach beyond the visible world. His paintings depict what cannot be touched or fully understood: the sense of eternity, of a reality richer than the everyday. This is not escapism as an end in itself, but a way of recalibrating the senses. Looking becomes an act of imagination.
