Public transport to Scheveningen

Scheveningen is very easy to reach by public transport. From Hollands Spoor and Den Haag Centraal stations, you can use HTM's tram 1,9,11 and bus 22, which will take you to the beach within 15 minutes. Buses 21 and 23, which both go around The Hague city centre, also go to Scheveningen. The trams and buses towards Scheveningen run all day from 7:00 to 24:00, about every 10 minutes.

Beach Express
HTM will deploy extra 'express' trams between The Hague HS - The Hague CS and Scheveningen during nice days and during the summer, with no further stops. This fast connection, called Strand Express, will be seen on signs at the stop, and will run between 12 and 8pm.

OV-Chipkaart and HTM day cards: where to buy them?

To travel on public transport, you need a valid transport ticket. You can read more about which tickets are available and where to buy them below.

  • OV-Chipkaart is a card you put your balance on to travel. The big advantage of the OV-Chipkaart is that it is valid throughout the Netherlands and on means of transport such as tram, metro, bus and train. You can buy or top up the card at the HTM service points at Den Haag Centraal and Hollands Spoor. You can also top up your OV-Chipkaart in the trams or at various shops such as Albert Heijn, Hema or Primera shops.

  • OVpay is the new way of paying for public transport. You use your debit card, credit card or mobile phone (with a contactless payment option) to check in and out on public transport. This can be done by tram, bus, metro or train. At the end of the day the amount will be debited from your account. Do you want an easy overview of your costs? Or did something go wrong and do you want your money back? Then download the special OVpay app.

  • HTM dagkaart (day pass) , HTM 3-dagenkaart (3 days pass) and the HTM Kinderdagkaart (childrens pass) are tickets to travel with the HTM tram and bus lines. These can be purchased at the HTM Service points Den Haag CS and HS. You can also buy the day pass, children's day pass and 2-hour pass in the trams and also recharge your OV-Chipkaart in the trams. Note: the 3-day ticket is not on sale in the tram.

  • Almost all tickets (day ticket, children's ticket, 2-hour ticket and promotional tickets) are available via the handy HTM Ticket app.
