Actor playing Aladdin on stage during a family theatre performance

The family theatre show Aladdin (4+) is performed at the Rijswijkse Schouwburg. This playful production follows a big-hearted young man who faces constant bad luck, yet never stops trying to do good for his village.

Aladdin means well, but luck is never on his side. He keeps getting fired from market stalls, even though all he wants is to make sure no one in his village goes hungry. When a merchant finally takes him under his wing, his clumsy elephant friend Boeboe sends a stall crashing to the ground, and a mysterious book about the Cave of Wonders suddenly appears.

An adventure in the desert

The cave, hidden deep in the desert, promises to make dreams come true. But Aladdin has another wish: the beautiful Princess Layla, with whom he falls instantly in love. She is on her way to announce her engagement to Prince Rashid, a match she has no interest in. Her mother, the Sultana, wants nothing to do with a penniless young man. Two worlds collide, and Aladdin decides to risk everything.

With Boeboe by his side, Aladdin heads for the magical cave. Inside, he finds it filled with treasures, but the adventure quickly takes a dangerous turn. The show blends humour, excitement, and a warm story about honesty and perseverance, making it a great outing for children aged 4 and up and their families.
