The film Atlantique will be screened during The Hague African Festival. The film ties in with the festival’s theme, Beyond Independence, which focuses on the experiences of the African diaspora, identity, migration and the concept of home.

Atlantique is director Mati Diop’s feature film debut and won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. The film tells the story of Ada and Souleiman, two young lovers from Dakar. Whilst Ada is preparing to marry a man she does not love, Souleiman sets off across the sea with a group of construction workers in search of a better future. Following his departure, a series of mysterious events unfold that radically alter Ada’s life and that of those around her.

Prior to the screening, Augustina Austin, director of The Hague African Festival, will give an introduction.
