Vlaggetjesdag ('Flag Day') Scheveningen is an event that has, year after year, heralded the arrival of the Hollandse Nieuwe herring.
Even in 2025, Vlaggetjesdag Scheveningen will take place, albeit in a different form due to the NATO summit in The Hague on 24 & 25 June.

Flag Day 2025: On tour

This year, Vlaggetjesdag 2025 is going on tour. This is due to the NATO summit in The Hague. Under these circumstances, it has proven impossible to organise the event at the harbours. However, a smaller-scale alternative programme is possible to give shape to the tradition of Vlaggetjesdag as a celebration of the start of the herring season.

Alternative Programme

Although the event cannot proceed at the Scheveningen harbour as usual, the organisation is working on an alternative programme to spread the Vlaggetjesdag feeling in Scheveningen and the city. "Vlaggetjesdag is not only a local event but is also nationally associated with the opening of the herring season. They want to continue celebrating this.

The alternative programme will include a series of small-scale initiatives that give the tradition and experience of Vlaggetjesdag a face in the city. These plans will be further developed in the coming period in consultation with the municipality and other partners.
