Karimah Ashadu – FLUID

Discover FLUID at KM21 in The Hague, the first major solo exhibition in the Netherlands by the British-Nigerian artist and filmmaker Karimah Ashadu. Through impressive video works, photography and sculptures, she explores themes such as labour, identity, masculinity and independence in Nigeria.

The focus is on the video works Plateau (2021–2022) and MUSCLE (2025). In Plateau, Ashadu follows illegal tin miners in the Jos-Plateau region of Nigeria. She shows how the colonial past continues to influence their lives and working conditions.

In MUSCLE she turns her camera on bodybuilders training in a modest gym in Lagos. Through intimate close-ups, she captures their strength, vulnerability and quest for recognition.

The exhibition combines film, photography and sculptures to create a unique experience in which personal stories and social themes come together.
