The boulevard at Scheveningen offers a unique combination of recreation and protection from the sea. On the one hand, this is a lovely spot for a stroll with countless attractions, lovely eateries and shops, year-round festivals, cultural events, markets, kids' activities and concerts. On the other, the modernized Scheveningen boulevard dating from 2013 is a vital link in the Dutch coastal defence system.

Cool Event Scheveningen
Scheveningen boulevard

Scheveningen has been an extraordinary place by the sea for 200 years. The heart of the seaside resort is now being renewed for the future. The Municipality of The Hague and Heijmans are renovating the boulevard in front of the Kurhaus. Here, between De Pier and Museum Beelden aan Zee, the boulevard will be over 10 metres wider and much greener. A large square of natural stone with special lighting will be created in front of the Kurhaus. A 30-metre wide staircase and new ramps will take you from the boulevard to the beach after the renovation. The renovation will last until the summer of 2025. You can just stroll (walk) along the boulevard from north to south. All your favourite terraces and attractions will remain open and accessible. Just come and enjoy the fresh sea air, a freshly fried fish or the sunset. Enjoy the beach or dunes, catch a wave or dive into the sea. Find the fun and conviviality of the nightlife. The agenda is packed 365 days. Moreover, be surprised by extraordinary programming. Meanwhile, you just visit your favourite place. Keep enjoying extraordinarily. Scheveningen is looking forward to you! View the programme and info on the project here.

Morales boulevard

The new Scheveningen boulevard south of the Kurhaus hotel was designed by Spanigh architect and urban designer Manuel de Solà-Morales. The starting point for his design is the wide promenade between the resort, the fishing village and the harbour. The new boulevard follows the undulating course of the old dunes and has different height levels that separate pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. The differences in height, beautiful materials, colours, street furniture and the position of the beach pavilions in compact clusters have transformed the boulevard into an attractive promenade.

SprookjesBeelden aan Zee

SprookjesBeelden aan Zee is an enchanting outdoor sculpture garden on the Scheveningen boulevard. The humorous and at times slightly bizarre bronze figures are inspired by our favourite fairytales and sea stories. The bronze artworks by sculptor Tom Otterness are freely accessible twenty-four hours per day. Try to find all the hidden figures, tiny as they are you will wonder how many there are!

Restaurants

The kilometre-long boulevard at Scheveningen is home to many lovely restaurants and beach clubs that boast a fabulous view of the sea and De Pier. No other city in the Netherlands has as many beach pavilions as The Hague. At the beginning of March the beach pavilions are put up again in Scheveningen, Kijkduin and on Zuiderstrand. They stay open until the end of October. Located at the southern section of the boulevard are some permanent beach pavilions and surfing schools where you can also come in the winter months for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Scheveningen: four seasons long

In Scheveningen there's a wealth of activities for young and old four seasons a year. At the Netherlands' most famous coastal attraction, The Pier, you can visit a cosy market almost every weekend. After a refreshing walk along the beach, drop in at the restaurants and cafés on the boulevard and the year-round beach clubs to enjoy a delicious dinner with a view of the sea. SEA LIFE Scheveningen is a must for a day out with children. The Pathé cinema, Circustheater and Holland Casino guarantee a great evening out in Scheveningen. The historic city centre of The Hague is only fifteen minutes from Scheveningen beach!
