Sustainable initiatives

Favourites
The Hague is home to more and more sustainable initiatives. Several events with a green character take place every year and there are many organizations in The Hague that organize sustainable projects for visitors and residents. We would like to give you some examples for your inspiration.

Het Voedselbos
At Pluk, preparations for a Food Forest are in development. September 1st  is the official start of the creation of a real food forest border. Until then, you can meet initiator Eveline from Haagse Honing every Thursday from 12:00pm to 3:00pm. Look carefully for her because she may be hidden among the nettles!

Trashure Hunt
Trashure Hunt brings environmental issues to the public's attention in an accessible, effective and fun way. In a variety of game formats, groups of children, teenagers and adults hunt for litter. Join them on "Treasure Hunt" and help keep The Hague's beaches clean!

Sustainable excursions
Want to explore The Hague in a sustainable way? Then do one of the free theme walks such as a royal route or a walk where you can imagine yourself in the golden age. Or take one of the fun cycling tours. For example, 'from city to sea' or through the dunes.

You can also get to know The Hague by foot, bike or boat with a guide. Look here for the possibilities.

Mens en Tuin (see banner)
Man and Garden is a care garden where participants work who receive personal attention while working in the garden or greenhouses. This special garden is over 2000 m2 and is located on the edge of Moerwijk in The Hague. The garden is divided into 8 themes: bee, water, herb, vegetable, rose, forest, fruit and bird garden. The kitchen garden store sells various plants and other garden products.

Pick and Weigh Zero Waste
In most major European cities you see them more and more: 100% packaging-free stores. The Hague is joining this initiative because soon crowdfunding will start for the store Pick and Weigh Zero Waste, The Hague's first zero waste food store. Via their Instagram channel you can follow their path to the grand opening. Nice to know: besides the fact that you can store packaging-free here, there is also a nutritionist walking around. Handy for all your food questions!

Lekker Nassuh
They sell fresh vegetables, At Lekker Nassuh they sell fresh vegetables, from the region, grown without poison and fertilizers and without packaging materials. Every Wednesday you can get a fresh package. In a package you will find at least 7 different vegetables; fresh, healthy and very tasty!

Buitenplaats de Molenwei
The Molenwei is a nature and recreation farm. Around the farm, nature is being restored and strengthened. New landscapes are being created for the purpose of biodiversity restoration. One of these landscapes, for example, is the Tiny Forest that you can walk through. Within a few years, it will be impossible to imagine the Randstad without the green hotspot Molenwei. Be sure to make a stop here during a bike ride through the countryside between The Hague, Zoetermeer and Leiden.

Throughout the year, lodgers are welcome with their own camping equipment or in cozy Camping Pods that are at the ready.

Amare
With four theater and concert halls, a meeting center, a large number of public spaces and two hospitality venues, Amare is a great cultural and convention center. This beautiful and special theater opened its doors in 2021. And the great thing is; sustainability is also at the heart of Amare. It is a sustainably built arts complex, with various measures already taken into account since the construction process. The catering is 80% plant-based and at least organic and fair trade. Not surprisingly, Amare also already has a Green Key certificate.

Tegelwippen
The Hague is the proud winner of the Golden Scoop of the NK Tile Scooping! Our city scooped the most tiles in all of the Netherlands. Altogether, more than 200,000 tiles were removed from the ground. Now there are flowers and plants where the tiles used to be. The city has been greened up even more.

Green Garden Festival
After a delightful first edition in 2019, the Green Garden Festival will return again on August 13, 2022 on The Hague's most beautiful flowerbed for another edition of Green Garden Festival! Located at Malieveld, the most beautiful flowers the Hofstad has to offer will be gathered for a floriade of stature. PAARD, PIP, Mama Africa and Vunzige Deuntjes will bring The Hague's musical, cultural and culinary world to bloom!
