Vigo Seafoodbar
Vigo is a harbor city in the northwest of Spain, where everything revolves around fishing and the sea. Known as the largest fishing port in Europe, Vigo served as inspiration — just like Scheveningen, the iconic Dutch fishing town. When you think of Scheveningen, you think of fish. For over 100 years, the two have been inseparable. The spirit of both Vigo and Scheveningen inspired the creation of this seafood restaurant in the heart of The Hague’s Statenkwartier.
Kitchen
The menu features a wide variety of seafood dishes made with fresh North Sea fish, straight from the docks of Scheveningen. Every day, the best catch is selected at the fish auction for both the restaurant and shop. Every Tuesday is “Lobster Tuesday” — a beloved tradition with a special lobster menu that’s popular among locals and definitely worth a try.
Wijn
The wine list includes a curated selection of well-known wines, as well as a special collection from Louis Jadot. Founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, this Burgundy estate owns more than 225 hectares of vineyards. The portfolio includes wines from Chablis, Côte d’Or, Côte Chalonnaise, Mâconnais, and Beaujolais — the latter mainly produced at Château des Jacques.
The philosophy? Each vineyard has its own identity and character. That’s why winemaker Frédéric Barnier interferes as little as possible during vinification. Rather than creating a uniform “Jadot style,” each wine expresses the unique qualities of its terroir.
Ambiance
The interior combines an elegant look with warm, natural materials like wood, accented with subtle maritime elements that nod to the sea and fishing tradition. The result is a stylish yet homely setting that invites you to relax and enjoy.
Vigo Family
It all began in 2015 when Hans and his sons Cor and Jonathan opened a restaurant next to their fish shop in the Gentsestraat. With years of experience, the time between catch and kitchen is minimal. Being their own supplier means the fish caught in the morning is served that same evening. The Vigo Family also includes The Old Jazz, Wine & Seafoodbar Areia, Vinostra Wine & Oysterbar, and Bistro Lemongrass.
