Out of Office (Still Here)
1 May - 16 Aug
The exhibition Out of Office (Still Here) explores what free time really means. What does it mean to stay at home during the summer holidays? And how do ‘stay-at-homes’ spend their days at a time when schools are closed, tourists fill the city and others go on holiday?
A different perspective on leisure and summer holidays
For many people, the summer holidays are all about relaxation, travel and freedom. Holidays to the sun, sea, beach or mountains seem to be the norm. But not everyone leaves the city. For some, summer actually means continuing to work, staying at home or looking after others.
This exhibition focuses on the city as a place of encounter and experience. Think of the neighbourhood, parks, public spaces and the beach in The Hague. These are places where people come together, play and relax, but where social differences also become apparent.
Out of Office (Still Here) poses critical questions about the idealised image of the holiday. The promise of rest and escape is set against themes such as inequality in leisure time and the impact of tourism on climate change.
With an extensive public programme for all ages, Nest is transforming into a vibrant meeting place this summer. A place for play, reflection and new perspectives on leisure time in The Hague.
