Zeeheldenkwartier is one of The Hague's cosiest city districts. Located at the edge of The Hague city centre, this is the neighbourhood where you will find many authentic shops, friendly restaurants and cafés, sunny squares and beautiful art nouveau buildings. Zeeheldenkwartier has a lot to offer in terms of food and drink. You will find numerous authentic eateries and coffee shops, especially in the Prins Hendrikplein, Piet Heinstraat, Prins Hendrikstraat and Anna Paulownaplein. In summer, you can enjoy cosy terraces on these squares, where mostly locals can be found.

Appeltje Eitje - Prins Hendrikstraat 69

One of the nicest lunches in Zeeheldenkwartier: Appeltje Eitje. The menu features many feel-good dishes such as pumpkin-choco pancakes, super toast with avocado and pita with pumpkin-harrisahoumous. As such, you'll run into lots of locals here.

Vincenzo's - Prins Hendrikstraat 75

In Zeeheldenkwartier, you will find the first Vincenzo’s restaurant. Here they serve 'Italian food with a modern twist'. In the huge pizza ovens, pizzas are slid right in front of you, all topped with buffalo mozzarella. Thanks to a fine collaboration with Marius, they also always serve the best wines here.

The cosy Prins Hendrikstraat is home to the first branch of De Sushimeisjes. With only a few tables, the restaurant is small but nice. Perfect for a quick bite to eat in a casual atmosphere after shopping in Zeeheldenkwartier.

Bartine - Piet Heinstraat 72

Because the hot buns on Herengracht were unbeatable, Bartine opened a second shop on Piet Heinstraat in Zeeheldenkwartier. A bakery and neighbourhood shop in one with the tastiest saffron buns, sourdough breads and almond croissants. And yes, you can also order a delicious fresh bakkie pleur here.

Shopping in the Zeeheldenkwartier

The main shopping streets are Prins Hendrikstraat, Zoutmanstraat and Piet Heinstraat. Here you will find fun home furnishing shops, trendy design shops, galleries, small clothes shops, cosy coffee shops, supermarkets and speciality shops. If you like discovering new things, Zeeheldenkwartier is definitely a must.

A very fine one this one: Achtung! Baby. Founded with the idea of selling beautiful, good-quality second-hand branded clothes for children in a fresh, uncluttered shop. Totally successful! Further down the street, by the way, you will also find Achtung! Lady (Prins Hendrikstraat 160).

Culture in the Zeeheldenkwartier

There is always something to do in the lively Zeeheldenkwartier. Every week there is a market, festival or other event to visit. Like the Zeeheldenfestival, which started out as a small neighbourhood party and has since grown into a multi-day event with performances, street theatre and activities.

Every Thursday you will find the Zeeheldenmarkt on the Prins Hendrikplein, full of daily fresh, artisanal and sustainable products. And throughout the year there are various (culinary) events in the Zeeheldenkwartier, such as the Asparagus Festival, the Mussel Festival, the Spring Festival, the Summer Festival and the Autumn Festival.

Grab a museum? Panorama Mesdag and The Mesdag Collection are dedicated to the work of famous Hague painter Hendrik Willem Mesdag and his contemporaries of the Hague School.

Cultuur in het Zeeheldenkwartier

Er is altijd wel iets te doen in het levendige Zeeheldenkwartier. Wekelijks is er een markt, festival of ander evenement te bezoeken. Zoals het Zeeheldenfestival wat ooit begon als klein wijkfeestje en inmiddels is uitgegroeid tot een meerdaags evenement met optredens, straattheater en activiteiten.

Elke donderdag vind je op het Prins Hendrikplein de Zeeheldenmarkt, vol dagverse, ambachtelijke en duurzame producten. En het hele jaar door zijn er verschillende (culinaire) evenementen in het Zeeheldenkwartier, zoals het Aspergefeest, het Mosselfeest, het Lentefeest, het Zomerfeest en het Herfstfeest.

Museum pakken? Panorama Mesdag en De Mesdag Collectie zijn gewijd aan het werk van de beroemde Haagse schilder Hendrik Willem Mesdag en zijn tijdgenoten van de Haagse School.
