Dia de Muertos

On Sunday 1 November 2026, the Grote Markt in The Hague transforms into a vibrant Mexican celebration. Music venue De Zwarte Ruiter and wine bar September come together for Día de Muertos – the Day of the Dead.

This special evening honors lost loved ones through flowers, food, music, and symbolic rituals. But don’t expect a somber mood. Think decorated skulls, bold costumes, candlelight, and traditional Mexican sounds. Get your face painted in Día de Muertos style and enjoy authentic Mexican food and drinks, with a focus on tequila and mezcal.

Entrance is free. And just to be sure: this is not a night to show up in your daily clothes. You don't want to be seen that way by the dead, do you? Have your face painted and reflect with a warm feeling on who you have lost. For whoever does not honor the dead is denied life.
