Kijkduin – small-scale and laid-back
Kijkduin is ideal for a day out as well as for longer holidays; its intimate scale is what gives Kijkduin its charm. Kijkduin is also known as the family beach. You’ll find unique shops and restaurants in and around the covered food court. The extensive promenade has been completely transformed; it is now home to a host of high-quality eateries such as Na Brasa. Kijkduin is the ideal spot for a walk or a bike ride. From Kijkduin, you can reach the Zandmotor — a unique man-made peninsula where nature, science and recreation come together. There is also plenty for children to do in Kijkduin, such as Ome Jan’s Jutterskeet; here you can borrow a net to fish in the sea or go treasure hunting with a real metal detector.

Tip: Zuiderstrand
Between Scheveningen Harbour and Kijkduin beach lies Zuiderstrand. Zuiderstrand near Kijkduin is one of the most beautiful spots in The Hague. Locals also refer to it as the quiet beach.
Exercise
Kijkduin beach has plenty to offer sports enthusiasts. Not only are the beach and dunes popular with runners, but kitesurfers have also found the Zandmotor peninsula to be the ideal spot to practise their sport. This is the perfect place to learn to kitesurf, and beginners can complete their lessons here in a relaxed and straightforward manner. When the wind blows strongly, the Zandmotor fills up quickly and the sky is teeming with kites. A spectacular sight! Cyclists will also find plenty to enjoy in Kijkduin: the seaside resort lies on the LF1 long-distance cycle route along the North Sea. Via Kijkduin, this route takes you through the dunes to Scheveningen or, in the opposite direction, to Hoek van Holland and the Port of Rotterdam.

Kijkduin beach is quiet and clean, there are extensive dunes for walking and cycling, you can enjoy kitesurfing and you will find various attractions in the area. There are several nice restaurants on the boulevard and in the summer there are many beach bars. Moreover, you can easily make trips from Kijkduin to Scheveningen and the city center of The Hague!
How do you get to Kijkduin?
By car:
- Take the exit The Hague South / N211.
- Follow Lozerlaan → Kijkduinsestraat all the way to Kijkduin.
- Set your destination to “Deltaplein, The Hague”; this is the central location near the beach, shops and car parks.
Parking:
Kijkduin has several car parks, both paid and free.

- Underground car park at the shopping centre.
- The first 1.5 hours are free; after that, you pay by the hour (maximum daily rate of around €25).
