Anne Lize Reuter is a time traveller who enjoys poring over old photo albums filled with yellowed black-and-white images. She is particularly drawn to images from the Fin de Siècle and the Roaring Twenties, a period when photography was still in its infancy and those portrayed often looked surprised, unsuspecting or uncomfortable into the lens.
Their lives are now gone, but Reuter gives them a new existence. In the 21st century, in colour and oil paint, she translates these moments into lively, loose brushstrokes. For her, painting is an act of love, love for reality, for everything that once was, and for the past that still resonates in the present.
