Art + Architecture

From 22 February to 23 March 2025, four prominent architects from The Hague will present their work in Pulchri Studio's Hardenberg Hall. Under the title ‘Art + Architecture’, they will not only show models of their building projects, but also their free visual art. With this exhibition, they question why the division between architecture and visual art is made at all.
In October 2024, the architects met in a studio at Landgoed Rust & Vreugd in Wassenaar to discuss their joint exhibition. Despite their reputation as architects, visual art plays an important role in their creative expression. Since, as categorical members of Pulchri Studio, they are not recognised as working artists, they want to draw attention to this issue with this exhibition.
Eric Vreedenburgh, known for projects such as De Baljurk in The Hague and the Pastor van Arskerk in Delft, discusses the taboo within Pulchri Studio on the recognition of architects as artists. Together with Gerrit van Es, Terry van der Heide and André van Lier, they show that art forms should not be limited by professional titles. From abstract paintings to geometric sculptures, their work reflects the versatility of their talents.
The discussion on the separation of the arts takes us back to the time of Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, when art and science were inseparable. The architects argue for a renewed view of art, in which disciplines flow smoothly into one another. The exhibition invites visitors to embrace this vision and celebrate art in all its forms.
Pulchri Studio invites visitors to experience this unique exhibition and explore the boundaries between architecture and fine art.
