In her often large oil paintings, Carla Klein (Netherlands, 1970) explores and bends our image of reality. Whereas in earlier work she relied on her own analogue photography, in her new paintings she also departs from easily reproducible prints
Klein is attracted to the abstraction of a landscape, and intrigued by the way the same place can be simultaneously flat and deep. Balancing between materiality and illusion, Klein plays with the idea of recognisability and representation. KM21 presents new and recent work by Klein in her first Dutch museum solo exhibition
