David Bade, Jordan Herregraven
18 Jan - 15 Feb
Exhibition
David Bade (1970) presents a number of new sculptures in which images of saints are transformed. For example, he gave the statue of Mary in No Non a new face and a pair of boxing gloves. There are also drawings and paintings featuring cheerful wolves, chickens and birds in opposition to factory farming. Another work depicts an alternative mass in which the Mother, the Daughter and the Holy Animal are honoured. David Bade wants these to be infectious images that fit in with what he calls his science of happiness.
Jordan Herregraven's (1990, Phoenix, Arizona, USA) sculptures resemble mythical creatures from a forgotten, mythical world that simultaneously speak to the present, to the fragility of nature that we must restore and protect. His virtuoso use of materials is striking, with animal heads and spines carved from wood and screens made of fabric. In his etchings, bats, fish and reptiles merge into bizarre pictograms, like riddles from the subconscious that we must decipher.
