On 19 January, the Dual City Concert Band will present its new album, Salud, the DCCB plays the music of Ewout Dercksen, at Musicon in The Hague. This album is entirely devoted to the music of Ewout Dercksen, saxophonist and composer from Arnhem.
Album release Salud
Dercksen wrote nine original compositions for Salud, characterised by strong melodies, exciting musical structure and rich rhythmic and harmonic layers. The pieces offer plenty of space for soloists and allow the power of the ensemble to come into its own. Music critic Koen Edeling wrote: ‘Fortunately, the music spoke for itself and Dercksen's compositions proved to be gems, each and every one of them, deserving to be recorded for eternity.’ That has now been done and the result can be heard on this new album.
The Dual City Concert Band is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. Since its inception, the band has been closely associated with the renowned Jazzpodium De Tor in Enschede, where it has performed nearly 200 concerts. Over the years, the band has played with international greats such as Jiggs Whigham, Tony Lakatos, Philip Catherine, and more recently with Bert Joris and Enrico Pieranunzi. The band has also been featured on the radio programme TROS Sesjun.
For the past three years, the Dual City Concert Band has been playing without a conductor and has focused explicitly on innovation and creativity. Compositions by band members form an important starting point in this regard. The album Salud marks an important milestone in this regard and underlines the band's artistic direction.
