The way sowing, harvesting, cooking, and eating together connects neighbors

With the photo exhibition Food Connects The Hague which can be seen from June 22 until July 3 in the Atrium City Hall organised by the Municipality 0f The Hague, association Ons Eten and the Duurzaam Den Haag foundation show the way food brings people together with photos from photographer Marco Rutten.

What happens when people eat together? Green places in the city where people gather to sow, harvest, cook, and enjoy healthy food are popping up more and more. At these food connection spots, new encounters are formed and people feel at home. These places demonstrate how local food can contribute to a healthy and pleasant city to live in.

During a few months, photographer Marco Rutten captured daily life at different types of “food connection spots”. He photographed the people, their habits, and what these places mean to them. In his work, you can see the tranquility of greenery in the city and the pleasures of people eating and gardening together. This creates an image of a community where people look out for one another and care for their surroundings.
