Kleurrijk abstract schilderij met blokken en strepen

In his first solo exhibition as an artist member of Pulchri Studio, Guus Koenraads presents a selection of recent paintings under the title Harteklop (Heartbeat). The exhibition showcases the work of an artist who uses tranquil geometry, refined colour nuances and carefully constructed compositions to create an imaginary space in which tranquillity, balance and concentration take centre stage.

Geometric tranquillity in colour and space

Koenraads works abstractly, with an architectural approach to form and colour. His paintings are created layer by layer, built up from horizontal and vertical planes. There is no writing, perspective is avoided – everything is focused on the essence. In his work, he explores contrasts such as colour and no colour, light and dark, line and plane, wall and floor. In doing so, he seeks an image that slowly reveals itself to the viewer and subtly influences the space around it.

His background in garden and landscape architecture is still evident in his work: each painting is a carefully constructed space, in which the artist composes autonomously and intuitively. Koenraads is inspired by landscapes, architecture and his immediate surroundings. Long-distance walks and retreats play an important role in his working process: moments of stillness that lead to deeper reflection.

The exhibition Harteklop is designed as an intimate total installation, in which each work hangs at eye level, detached from the wall, and enters into a dialogue with the surrounding space. The exhibition is accompanied by a publication designed by Diederik Corvers. This exhibition has been made possible in part by Pulchro Sacrum.
