Abstract depiction of a mountainous structure

In her first solo exhibition at Pulchri Studio, artist Hanny Heetman takes you on a journey beyond the visible. ‘It starts with a moment when I am touched by the genius loci or a moment of wonder, often unexpected, brief but full of meaning. I capture it with my camera. Then my inner journey begins, fuelled by deepening, studying and sketching research. I intervene in the original image and create a new reality’.

Hanny is a traveller who has worked in the Middle East and Far East. Her (study) trips have taken her to places such as Japan, Paris and Berlin. This has given her a diverse frame of reference that is evident in her work. ‘I discover the universal meaning of humanity in the city and the landscape. That is what I want to show in my work’.
Her work moves between documentary and imagination, characterised by meaningful layers and refinement. She uses a variety of techniques and presentations, from screen printing on glass to oil paint and ink on paper. In the Klinkenberg Galleries, Hanny is exhibiting a selection of works on the theme Beyond the Image.
The Dreamscapes series was created after her study trip to Japan, where nature, silence and urban dynamism and hustle and bustle alternate. The golden ring of an old Chinese woman formed the beginning of the Pu-Yi on his own series, a series about identity, power and vulnerability. The fragile balance between man and nature on the Indonesian islands is depicted in the Lost in time series. Two new Art Cahiers, exclusive limited editions with complete series printed on fine art paper, will be published especially for the exhibition. New reality 03 | Pu-Yi on his own, emperor in a fading dynasty  and new reality 04 | Lost in time.
The series Recollections in a Lacquer Box is being shown for the first time. Photographs, ink drawings and collected objects are brought together poetically in authentic Japanese lacquer boxes, making memories visual and tangible. Hanny discovers the world and goes beyond the image....
