Ibrahim Maalouf brings KALTHOUM to life
French-Lebanese trumpeter and composer Ibrahim Maalouf is among the world's greatest jazz musicians. With his virtuoso playing, he builds a unique bridge between jazz, Arabic and classical music. This year, he celebrates the 10th anniversary of KALTHOUM with a special tribute tour. The gold-winning album is an ambitious reinterpretation of Alf Leila Wa Leila (One Thousand and One Nights), a masterpiece by Egyptian diva Umm Kulthum. Surrounded by a virtuoso jazz quintet, Maalouf gives this legendary work new depth and modernity with his own artistic sensibility.
With KALTHOUM, Maalouf honours not only a musical icon, but also a feminist and political figure whose influence can still be felt today.
