Jacco Olivier – Revolution

As a painter, Jacco Olivier likes to take you on a journey through painting. He first creates paintings on small panels, which he then photographs. He assembles these images and lets them slide over each other. In this way, he adds the element of time, making the static paintings move. Finally, he uses projected digital animation to inflate the analogue miniature images.

The animation Revolution was inspired by a moon phase indicator found on old standing clocks. If you stand in front of the work, the pivot point is 15 metres below you and the animation rotates around you in 24 minutes – the hours of the day reduced to minutes – just as the moon dial turns around its axis.
