Khaled Dawwa - Voici mon coeur

In 2025, as part of eighty years of Freedom, Museum Beelden aan Zee will present the impressive installation Voici mon coeur (Behold my heart) by Syrian artist Khaled Dawwa (b. 1985). This six-metre-long artwork, made of unfired clay, depicts the ruins of a facade wall in war-ravaged Damascus. The fragile structure emphasises the impermanence of war and the strength of human resilience.
The exhibition ties in with the commemorative year and offers a current perspective on freedom and unfreedom. Dawwa's work is a reminder that the struggle for freedom is not just a historical fact, but an ongoing responsibility. Alongside the installation, a documentary about the artist will be screened, revealing his story and inspiration behind this extraordinary work.
