Visitors at Binnenhof with Hofvijver in the background.

Programme at the Binnenhof during Open Monument Day

During Open Monument Day, you can discover the stories of the Binnenhof through talks, walks and activities around the Hofvijver. The Binnenhof itself is not open to the public due to renovation work.

  • Discover the stories of the Binnenhof

During Open Monument Day on 12 September, the focus will be on the history of the Binnenhof. Due to the building works, you will not be able to visit the Binnenhof itself. However, there will be various activities taking place around the Binnenhof.

  • Lectures on the Binnenhof

Architects and heritage consultants will be giving two talks at Korte Vijverberg on the development and future of the Binnenhof complex. Register for a talk

  • A walk along the Hofvijver

On a walk along the Hofvijver, you’ll discover how the buildings of the Binnenhof came to be and how the renovation is progressing. Along the way, you’ll meet historical figures who’ll tell you about the Binnenhof in the Middle Ages and during the time of Jacoba of Bavaria. Sign up for the walk

  • VR experience at the Information Centre

The Binnenhof Renovation Information Centre at Plaats 22 is open during Open Monument Day. Here you can find out more about the past, present and future of the Binnenhof complex.
With a pair of VR glasses, you can walk along the future Hofgracht. This canal used to run alongside the Binnenhof. Part of it will be restored following the renovation.

  • Guided tours of the Information Centre

During special guided tours, staff use the exhibition to explain the past, present and future of the Binnenhof. A guided tour lasts about half an hour.
You can also visit the Information Centre without a guided tour. In addition, you can climb up to the Viewpoint for a view of the Binnenhof and The Hague. Book a guided tour

  • Children’s activities

For children, there is a treasure hunt along the Hofvijver on Lange Vijverberg. At Korte Vijverberg 2, children can colour in and assemble a cut-out model of the Torentje.

  • Pedal boating on the Hofvijver

During Open Monument Day, you can also view the Binnenhof from the water. Between 12.00 and 14.30, pedalos are available on the Hofvijver. Sign up for the pedalos
