Republic of Cyprus - Palimpsest Worlds
27 Mar - 26 Apr
The exhibition Palimpsest Worlds forms part of the Cultural Programme of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026 and serves as an artistic metaphor for European identity: a coexistence of many voices, histories and cultures that share a common present. The exhibition is a parallel, interactive journey through time and history, connecting the old with the new and the past with the present. An artistic reality and, at the same time, an open narrative, constantly being revised and always leading to new syntheses.
The exhibition not only explores the values of collective memory through rewriting; it also serves as an artistic reflection on cultural diversity and the dialogue between tradition and contemporary creation.
Visual artist Toula Liasi explores, in collaboration with the 4ELEGY Project (Elena Parouti and Irene Stavrou) the concept of the palimpsest by creating multiple layers, in which history and the past remain visible and are in constant dialogue with the present. At the same time, Eva Stavrou’s music acts as a sonic bridge that enriches and enhances the layered visual outcome of the exhibition.
As a team, but also as individual creators with their own distinct voices, the participants believe that art can shed light on various aspects of Cypriot history, thereby bringing their rich cultural identity to the fore.
Participants: Toula Liasi, Elena Parouti, Irene Stavrou and Eva Stavrou (musical accompaniment)
