Screentime - Piero Zuccaro
1 Aug - 31 Aug
Exhibition
Opposite the entrance to the society, film and video works by Pulchri Studio's film and video makers are on display, breaking the barriers between film, video and visual art. To give Pulchri Studio's existing film and video makers a stage, they can submit work for Screentime. This initiative is a monthly changing collection of videos by one artist that are exhibited on the screen in our corridor. Screentime thus offers a dynamic presentation of developments and creative expressions within film and video art. With monthly changes of video artworks, the collection remains fresh and current, and the audience gets to see something new all the time.
The selected works for Screentime showcase a wide range of styles and techniques. These range from abstract visual poetry to documentary-style narratives, and from fictional narratives to soundscapes with accompanying videos. As such, the exhibition is not only a reflection of the diversity within Dutch film and video art, but also a platform for discussion and inspiration. The audience is invited to be surprised, to reflect on the works on display and to participate in the ongoing dialogue between film, video and visual art.
The beating heart of the exhibition is Piero Zuccaro's video installation, a work that combines six large screen prints, edited with pastel, with a video entitled Uncertain and Oscillating Interior. This video, shot in 2013 with Franco Battiato, represents a profound encounter between painting and music. In the video, Zuccaro's voice intertwines with Battiato's, who reads an excerpt from the Chinese painter Shitao, while Zuccaro recites a poem by John of the Cross. The interaction between these elements creates a meditative atmosphere, where spirituality and contemplation are at the heart of artistic practice.
